Jamie joined the Westpac Group in October 2017. He leads Westpac’s data and analytics capabilities. He also serves as the Chief Strategy Officer.
Prior to joining the Group, Jamie served as the Managing Director of Americas at Colonial First State Asset Management where he had responsibility for establishing and building. Before that, he spent several years at McKinsey & Company.
He has an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts in Slavic Languages and Literature from Harvard University.
Ellen Wu is the Head of Asia Data Office and Global Head of Data Enablement and Governance at Manulife and has a wealth of experience in building modern data capabilities and establishing practical data governance. In one year of joining Manulife, she has been able to build a data team supporting Asia, transformed Manulife’s data governance agenda globally and has grown the business use cases leveraging big data capabilities 4 times of the original plan.
Prior to joining Manulife, she served as the Asia Pacific Chief Data Officer at HSBC Commercial Banking where she created and managed a Data Office and led several global data transformation initiatives across 50 countries. Prior to HSBC, she implemented the first global data management tool for Standard & Poor’s Capital IQ. Ellen was also a key committee member at the DAMA International China Chapter and invited to speak at the first data conference hosted by China Banking Regulatory Committee on the topic of Data Management & Governance.
Ellen has degrees in Mathematics & Economics from Smith College, a Data Science degree from the MIT Digital Program, and a certification in International Relations and Quantitative Methods in Economics & Business from Harvard.
Ellen has worked internationally from Shanghai, New York to London throughout her career. She is currently based in Hong Kong.
Grant Priestley is currently leading the architecture and implementation of Big Data, machine learning and AI platform at one of Australia's largest telecommunications organisation. He has more than 20 years of IT and business experience and has spent the last 8 years of his life architecting and delivering some of Australia's largest machine learning and advanced analytics platforms. Long-standing experience domestically and internationally in Big Data, machine learning, and AI within FSI, government, retail, and telecommunications, he enjoys driving the execution of architectures that use data and technologies to help companies realise measurable value from analytics machine learning and AI.
Alan is a founder of Hortonworks and an original member of the engineering team that took Pig from a Yahoo! Labs research project to a successful Apache open source project. Alan is PMC member on Apache Hive, Pig, and many other Apache projects. As part of the Apache Incubator PMC he has mentored many new Apache communities. Alan has a BS in Mathematics from Oregon State University and a MA in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. He is also the author of Programming Pig, a book from O’Reilly Press. Jamie Engesser is the Senior Vice President Product Management at Hortonworks. With more than twenty years of professional experience in the software industry, Jamie most recently had global responsibility for Hortonworks Solutions Engineering organization which is focused on guiding organizations to identify their Hadoop opportunity from Business Case, to Proof of Concept, to successful Project Delivery. Prior to Hortonworks, Jamie led Global Solutions Engineering teams at SpringSource and VMware. Jamie has extensive experience spanning Open Source, Java, Platform as a Service (PaaS), Application Infrastructure and Big Data. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Montana State University.
Nick Hoskins is the Country Manager for Cloudera Australia and New Zealand. In this role, he leads the field organisation and is responsible for overall Cloudera strategy and business in this region. His charter is to expand Cloudera’s customer base and help organisations realise the measurable benefits of a modern platform for machine learning and analytics, on-premise or in the cloud. Nick has over 22 years of experience in the technology industry, working with enterprises, public sectors, mid-markets, and channel partners. Prior to joining Cloudera, he has held senior leadership positions in global software companies, such as Citrix and Computer Associates, with a strong focus on helping customers undertake successful transformation initiatives.
Kitman Cheung is the Analytics CTO for IBM Asia Pacific. Throughout his 17 year career with IBM, Kitman has focused his attention on analytics related technologies, and has served in many technical roles within development, product management, partner ecosystem and technical pre-sales organizations.
In his current role, his responsibilities include working with key IBM customers in various industry segments to transform their information infrastructure for the Big Data and Analytics era.
Andy LoPresto is a Sr. Member of Technical Staff at Hortonworks working on the Hortonworks DataFlow team. In this role he serves as both a Committer and Project Management Committee Member for Apache NiFi, an open source, robust, secure data routing and delivery system. Andy focuses on security concerns within NiFi including identity management, TLS negotiation, data protection, access control, encryption and hashing. Andy is also involved with the sub-project, Apache MiNiFi, which drives edge data collection, including secure command and control and immediate data provenance and governance. He has presented about NiFi at DataWorks Summits in Singapore, Tokyo, Melbourne, Berlin, Sydney, and San Jose, FOSDEM '17 in Brussels, and the OpenIoT Summit 2017.
Andrew Psaltis is deeply entrenched in streaming and IoT systems and obsessed with delivering insight at the speed of thought. As the author of Streaming Data (http://manning.com/psaltis/) by Manning, an international speaker and trainer he spends most of his waking hours thinking about, writing about, and building streaming systems.When he's not busy being busy, he's spending time with his lovely wife, two kids, and watching as much Lacrosse as possible. An ardent innovator, he holds an inimitable experience of incubating a Digital start-up, and successfully growing it as a lean alternative growth engine bringing in revenues in excess of $10M.
Currently he heads up Strategy & Innovation at Hortonworks and helps early stage startups with angel Investments, product prototyping, affiliate partnership strategy, marketing and loyalty biz-stream creation and sustainable 360 degree growth, across both sides of the Atlantic.

Laurence is a Senior Solutions Architect at Hortonworks with years of hands-on design and development experience in the big data space. Winner of many industry awards for innovation and achievements, Laurence has been responsible for designing and deploying data lakes for some of Hortonworks' largest customers, and has led many big data and data engineering implementations across Asia Pacific, Europe, and the US.
Mo Kamel is an experienced Solutions Consultant with solid experience in Enterprise Architecture with a focus on Operational and Business Support Systems, IOT, Security Analytics, and Big Data.
Currently, Mo works as a Sales Engineer at Hortonworks helping customers leverage the power of Modern Data Architectures. Recently, he was involved in a significant SOC project where he led the technical delivery of Security Data Analytics and Incident Management solution which is hosted on Cloud IaaS and based on HDP, HDF, Metron, and Elastic.
Prior to Hortonworks, Mo has worked as Solutions Architect with various organisation such as Nokia, Redknee, and Unico. Started his career as Software Engineer to architect, design, and develop E2E solutions for large telco operators. Solutions which process a high volume of subscribers’ requests and deal with large sets of the customer and network data.
Robert is an AI evangelist at Cloudera and has over 12 years of experience working on various projects related to Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, IoT, Enterprise & Embedded Software. His primary focus at Cloudera is building communities around IoT, Big Data and Data Science, and enabling Enterprises to accelerate adoption of cutting edge open-source technologies (from Edge to AI).
Sanjay is founder and chief architect at Hortonworks, and
an Apache Hadoop committer and member of the Apache Hadoop PMC.
Prior to co-founding Hortonworks, Sanjay was the chief architect of core-Hadoop at Yahoo and part of the team that created Hadoop. In Hadoop he has contributed to several areas including HDFS, MapReduce schedulers, Yarn's design, high availability, compatibility, etc.
He has also held senior engineering positions at Sun Microsystems and INRIA, where he developed software for distributed systems and grid/utility computing infrastructures.
Sanjay has a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo in Canada.
Steven O'Neill began his career as a DBA and has 20 years' experience specialising in Oracle and SQL Server. He started working with Hadoop, using Hortonworks HDP, almost four years ago. As technical lead for Hadoop within the Department of Home Affairs he has overseen the implementation of multiple projects involving data archiving, image storage and text indexing. Steven and his team are currently focusing on analytic workloads, graph storage and analysis, and improvements to streaming ingestion of data into both Hadoop and the Department's Teradata Enterprise Data Warehouse.
Dwane Hall began his career as a Java Developer before moving into a Data Engineering role all within the Department of Home Affairs. He has been working with Hadoop and the Hortonworks HDP for the past two years. As a Hadoop Developer his focus has been on architecting and securing the Departments NiFi and Solr environments and identifying and implementing solutions that utilise the Departments data holdings to support operational decision making.
Stephen Weingartner has been with Oracle for 6 years as an Solution Engineer. His specialty is cloud based analytics and that extends into information management, big data, and machine learning. Prior to working at Oracle, Stephen had about 15 years’ experience in analytics / information management in the roles architecture, strategy, design, development, project management, and systems management.
Joel Roland is the Sales Engineering Manager for Cloudera Australia and New Zealand. His remit is to help translate customers’ requirements and use cases into technical solutions that run on Cloudera and ensuring the success of the platform. Joel has over 15 years experience working in IT, with over 10 years in Data & Analytics. Prior to joining Cloudera, he held various Data & Analytic roles in organisations such as CSC (DXC) and the University of Wollongong.
Arthur is an IBM and Open Group Master Certified IT Architect and senior member of the Australian Computer Society and holds a Master's Degree in Enterprise Architecture. Arthur joined IBM in 2006 after working in a variety of industries including public transport, telecommunications and product R&D as well as operating his own software development company serving customers in more than 20 countries. At IBM, Arthur has led architecture teams on complex system integration engagements in the telecommunications and insurance industries. Arthur has a strong foundation in software engineering and is an agile methods exponent.
As Experience Lead for the IBM Cloud Garage, Leon helps steward clients through the Garage Method digital innovation methodology. He has a rich history creating innovation and tech education programs in Australia to help clients and their people rapidly design and develop software with a blended design, lean and agile approach.
Leon previously worked in operations, country and community leads for goCatch (ride-sharing), Indiegogo (crowdfunding) and Google (Google Developer Group) alongside implementing lean startup educational programs, community events such as Startup Weekend and NEXT. He holds a Six Sigma Black Belt certification, Ba. Business Administration (Hons), Grad Dip Marketing and has worked previously in education, medical and construction industries.
